Transport Malta, the registry authority of the Malta government holding reponsibility and accountability for the registration and operation of Malta registered yachts has today announced the introduction of an updated Malta Commercial Yacht Code (CYC 2020).
The original Malta Commerical Yacht Code was launched in 2006 and last updated in 2015 by Transport Malta.
The new revised CYC 2020 is applicable to all commercial yachts registered in Malta and is effective from the 1st January, 2021.
A copy of the CYC 2020 can be downloaded here:
Malta Commercial Yacht Code CYC 2020
It is hoped that CYC 2020 will better serve the needs of the yachting industry as it aims to optimise the regulatory regime to the particular needs, demands and technologies of this market, in conformity with safety and international regulations and standards.
Existing commercial yachts already certified in accordance to the CYC 2015, will need to comply with the requirements of the CYC 2020 by not later than the yacht’s first periodical survey carried out after the 1st June, 2021.
Transport Malta and the Code itself provide for special consideration to the phasing-in of new/optimised applicable requirements on existing yachts.
Oceanskies is able to provide a complete charter yacht registration package combining commercial Malta flag yacht registration through our Malta office with coding certification and the employment of crew through Oceanskies Crew Limited in a Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) environment and, where applicable, with deduction and payment of Malta social security contributions.
