Oceanskies welcomes superyacht "Rebecca" to Guernsey

Oceanskies was pleased to welcome the superyacht ketch “Rebecca” to Guernsey today, Sunday 1st June.

It was an early start for Adrian Ogier of Oceanskies who was on hand to welcome the yacht and clear customs upon its arrival from Falmouth where she had just completed an extensive refit at the yard of its original builder, the world class Pendennis shipyard.

The German Frers designed “Rebecca” is one of the largest ketches to have been built at Pendennis shipyard in Falmouth to date and is without doubt one of the finest looking, modern sailing yachts in the world. The Owner wished to combine all of the best elements of yachts from the mid-19th century to the modern day, in a stylish, eye-catching yacht which would give high performance under sail. German Frers duly produced drawings for a 42-metre yacht with fine lines and a graceful shear, which is both extremely attractive and performance-minded. The interior by Robin Black is light and elegant, consisting largely of off-white fielded panelling. Unusually, the sole is made from antique Heart Pine salvaged from a North American mill built in 1711.

Earlier in the week Oceanskies had been in Falmouth attending the Pendennis Cup series of yacht races. During the visit Adrian had the privilege of sailing onboard "Rebecca" for its post refit sea trials off Falmouth.

“Rebecca” is the latest superyacht to be handled by Oceanskies acting as yacht agents in Guernsey this year. Since launching in January 2013 Oceanskies has been working hard to attract more superyachts to the Channel Islands and has been actively marketing the islands as destination for large yachts at various boat shows around the world including Cannes, Southampton and Monaco.

Duncan Swanson of Oceanskies believes that the Channel Islands have a lot to offer superyachts, their owners and crew saying, “Guernsey has always been a popular stop over for yachts clearing in and out of the VAT territory of the EU and for cheap fuel”. Duncan added, “we are actively not only promoting the islands as a place to make technical stops but increasingly we are seeing more superyachts visiting with guests onboard as there is a growing trend to leave the traditional cruising grounds of the Mediterranean to explore new areas.”

Adrian Ogier of Oceanskies said “The visit of these large yachts can not only be a good thing for the economy of the Channel Islands but also their reputation as a destination for high net worth individuals and we hope to attract more to the islands in the future.”

Oceanskies is based in the heart of St. Peter Port harbour inside the Boatworks+ building alongside the main yacht refuelling berth. Yachts up to 50 metres in length can be accommodated on the fuel berth outside our window.
