A Representative person (also known as a Resident agent) acts as a local liaison between the yacht owner and their chosen flag state. Some flag states mandate a representative person for all yachts, while others require representation only for commercial vessels or those exceeding 24 meters in length.

Standard requirements for a representative person typically include:

  • Ownership Due Diligence (KYC)
  • Certificate of Registry

Note: some registries require original wet-ink signed documents, while others accept electronic documents and digital signatures.

The representative person process

1. Compliance

Requirements vary based on flag state. We will collect KYC information for both individual and corporate owners ensuring adherence to flag state regulations.

2. Documentation Review

We assess submitted compliance documentation, to confirm completeness and identify if any additional requirements are needed.

Timeframe: 24 hours

3. Acceptance

Once approved we will notify both the yacht owner and the relevant ship registry, confirming our role as the representative person and providing all necessary details.

Our service & pricing

Oceanskies provides direct representative person services for the following flag states:

Flag State Fee Structure
Guernsey £300 (covers the 10-year lifespan of the vessel’s Certificate of British Registry, or until sold/legal requirements change)
Jersey £250 per annum (individual owners) / £500 per annum (corporate owners)
Malta €500 per annum
United Kingdom £500 (covers the 5-year lifespan of the vessel’s Certificate of British Registry, or until sold/legal requirements change)
