Provisional or temporary registration provides a practical short-term solution, allowing yachts to navigate under a flag state while full registration is being finalised.

This type of registration is commonly used for new-builds, delivery voyages, or situations where full registration is delayed.

Oceanskies offers a fixed-fee provisional registration service for all available flag registries, including:

  • Complete management of the provisional registration process
  • All registry fees for provisional registration
  • Vessel name approval & reservation
  • Drafting & submission of required documentation
  • Appointment & provision of representative person (if required)
  • Provision of radio license allocating call sign and MMSI number
  • Issuance of the Provisional Certificate of Registry

Provisional yacht registration requirements

Standard requirements for provisional yacht registration include:

  • Ownership Due Diligence (KYC)
  • Preferred Vessel Name
  • Technical Documents (CE Certification, Specification, etc.)
  • Tonnage Certificate or equivalent (if required)

Note: some registries require original wet-ink signed documents, while others accept electronic documents and digital signatures.

The provisional registration process

1. Compliance

Requirements vary based on flag state. We will collect KYC information for both individual and corporate owners.

Timeframe: 24 hours

2. Documentation Review

We assess submitted documents to determine the necessary application forms and any other additional requirements necessary for application submission.

Timeframe: 24 hours

3. Application Preparation & Submission

We prepare and submit the complete application to the selected registry.

Timeframe: 24 hours

4. Acceptance & issue of Provisional Certificate of Registry

Most applications are accepted upon first submission. If additional information is required, we will coordinate accordingly. Once approved, the registry issues the Provisional Certificate of Registry.

Provisional registrations are typically valid for 3 to 6 months from the date of issue, depending on the flag state.

Timeframe: 48 hours
