It is essential to ensure that the official registration documents are updated and reissued in the new owner’s name to maintain compliance and legal clarity.

Oceanskies offers a fixed-fee full registration service for all available flag registries. Our service includes:

  • Complete management of vessel registration transfer of ownership
  • Assistance with officially changing vessel name on registration documents
  • All registry fees for full registration (and provisional registration if available)
  • Obtaining a current transcript of registry (when required)
  • Drafting & submission of required documentation
  • Appointment & provision of representative person (if required)
  • Provision of radio license allocating call sign and MMSI number
  • Liaison with seller, broker or dealer for title documentation
  • Handling of general disbursements such as mail and couriers
  • Issuance of the final Certificate of Registry

Transfer of ownership requirements

Below are the standard requirements for a transfer of ownership:

  • Ownership Due Diligence (KYC)
  • Certificate of Registry
  • Bill of Sale or equivalent
  • Commercial Certification (if applicable)
  • Classification Certification (if applicable)

These documents help us determine any additional requirements and prepare the necessary application forms for the chosen registry.

 

Note: some registries require original wet-ink signed and notarised documents, while others will accept electronic documents and digital signatures.

The transfer of ownership process

1. Compliance

Requirements vary based on chosen flag, we will collect KYC information for both individual and corporate owners.

Timeframe: 24 hours

2. Documentation Assessment

We will review received documents to determine the necessary application forms and any other additional requirements necessary for application submission.

Timeframe: 24 hours

3. Application Preparation & Submission

We prepare and submit the complete application to the chosen registry.

Timeframe: 24 hours

4. Acceptance

Applications are typically accepted on the first submission. If any additional information is needed, we will follow up accordingly.

Timeframe: 48 hours

5. Certificate of Registry

The registry issues the official Certificate of Registry in the name of the new owner.

Timeframe: 48 hours
