The Republic of San Marino, located in the Italian peninsula, is the fifth-smallest country in the world, with approximately 33,000 inhabitants. Established in 301 A.D., it is the oldest sovereign state and constitutional republic in existence.

San Marino is a parliamentary Republic with two Captains Regent (Heads of State) and a Parliament composed of 60 members. The official language is Italian, and the currency is Euro.

The San Marino Ship Register (SMSR) operates under an exclusive service agreement with the San Marino Maritime Authority (MNA) to handle yacht registrations. The SMSR is committed to the same principles as the International Maritime Organization (IMO): Safe, Secure, and Sustainable.

The Flag

Yachts registered in San Marino fly the national flag which is formed by two equal horizontal bands of white (top) and light blue with the national coat of arms at the centre.

Port of Registry

The only official port of registry in San Marino is SAN MARINO.

Radio Licensing

Radio licenses are issued directly by the San Marino Ship Register.

Holding a valid radio license is a legal requirement, as it assigns a Call Sign and MMSI number necessary for operating onboard communication and safety equipment, including VHF radios, EPIRBs, and AIS transmitters.
