Junior Software Developer

Guernsey or Southampton

Oceanskies is based in Guernsey in the Channel Islands and we are responsible for employing thousands of superyacht crew all around the world. Our in-house software development team (known as Sunlounger) is spread across our Guernsey and UK offices. We design, build and evolve bespoke yacht crew employment and payroll services for some of the largest clients in the maritime industry.

Relationshps

This post holder will report to the Front End Lead and Project Manager.

Support the existing software team in the development and delivery of the department’s DevOps and product strategy;
Maintain our cloud-based crew payroll system, PWA, and registration service;
Collaborate with strategic partners to facilitate 3rd party integrations;
Respond to and improve output based on senior team members’ feedback;
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the group data structure; and
Generate custom reports for key stakeholders.

Essential

Demonstrable problem-solving, numeracy and literacy competencies;
Ability to work within established DevOps processes;
Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, and familiarity with AWS and self-hosted servers;
Ability to present designs and ideas to primary users in plain English;
Build tests for both code and UAT;
Produce code to a set ‘clean code’ standard;
Ability to refactor system elements safely to improve efficiency and security; and
Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles.

Desirable

Experience working on legacy PHP;
Experience working with AWS (Kubernetes, EC2, EKS), React, or software frameworks;
Experience building/maintaining native mobile apps / progressive web apps; and
Experience with MVC code structures
