Guernsey superyacht

Oceanskies was pleased to welcome the 58.5 metre superyacht “Ronin” to Guernsey earlier today in conjunction with local fuel and marine service provider Boatworks+.

“Ronin” is considered to be one of the world’s most iconic superyachts.

The 58.5 metre yacht was designed by Sir Norman Foster and constructed by the Lürssen shipyard in Germany.

Although first commissioned over 20 years ago it is a testament to the designer and builder that the vessel still looks as striking today as when she was new.

The yacht visited Guernsey having recently completed an extensive 11 month refit at the yard where she was built.

After Guernsey the yacht is heading for the USA so its visit to Guernsey provided a useful technical stop to take on fuel for the journey ahead.

“Ronin” is the latest of a number of superyachts to visit to Guernsey this year.

Since launching in January Oceanskies has been working hard to attract more superyachts to Channel Island waters and will be actively marketing the islands as destination for large yachts at various forthcoming boatshows around the world including Cannes, Southampton, Monaco and Fort Lauderdale.

Duncan Swanson of Oceanskies believes that the Channel Islands have a lot to offer superyachts, their owners and crew saying, “Guernsey has always been a popular stop over for yachts clearing in and out of the VAT territory of the EU and for cheap fuel”. Duncan added, “we are actively not only promoting the islands as a place to make technical stops but increasingly we are seeing more superyachts visiting with guests onboard as there is a growing trend to leave the traditional cruising grounds of the Mediterranean to explore new areas.”

Adrian Ogier of Oceanskies said “The visit of these large yachts can not only be a good thing for the economy of the Channel Islands but also their reputation as a destination for high net worth individuals and we hope to attract more to the islands in the future.”
