Oceanskies have published a guide to explain the obligations of yacht crew and the employers of yacht crew working onboard French flagged yachts or residing in France for the purpose of social security contributions.

The guide follows the implementation of the latest version of the French social security decree for seafarers with effect from the 1st January, 2018.

Tom Becker of Oceanskies said, ‘the issue of social security in France for yacht crew has been a hot topic for much of the past year which has resulted in considerable uncertainty.’ ‘Following dialogue with ENIM and our own lawyers we believe that the position for yacht crew working on French registered vessels or residing in France is now clearer and hopefully our guide will help to explain what employers and seafarers need to do’.
