Oceanskies Aero is able to assist owners with the import and export of their aircraft into and out of the European Union (EU) handling formalities either directly or in conjunction with leading customs agents.
Our aircraft importation services include the full importation of aircraft into the European Union into free circulation either as qualifying aircraft operating for charter under an Air Operator Certificate or through the payment or deferment of VAT in the case of private aircraft or for corporate aircraft used predominantly for business purposes.
Generally speaking an aircraft owner will be required to make a full importation whenever the aircraft arrives into the EU from a non EU airport.
Situations where a formal import would usually be required include:
- The first arrival into the EU of an aircraft constructed or purchased outside the EU
- The arrival of an aircraft into the EU that was built within the EU for export but is now returning to the EU
- The arrival of an aircraft into the EU that is non-EU owned and would otherwise qualify for Temporary Admission but intends to perform cabotage within the EU
We are also able to provide assistance with the importation of aircraft under a customs relief known as Temporary Admission.
Temporary Admission is an EU mechanism designed in its simplest terms to enable non EU resident aircraft owners to operate their aircraft within the EU for a certain period of time without liability to pay the EU VAT that otherwise would be payable upon their first arrival into the EU.
The current period of time that an aircraft is allowed to remain within the EU under such relief is six months which in certain circumstances is extendible.
To qualify in all cases for Temporary Admission strict terms and conditions exist pertaining to the operation of Temporary Admission relief to prevent abuse of the system.
We can also assist with the importation of aircraft into the EU under Inward Processing Relief (IPR) in cases where an aircraft will visit the EU for maintenance purposes.
In certain cases a formal export of an aircraft should be made from the EU, for example a new build aircraft sold by the manufacturer as an export from the EU on a zero rated VAT basis.

Guernsey has a special fiscal status in that it is outside the EU for VAT purposes but within the EU for customs purposes.
In certain situations this makes the island a useful stopover for aircraft leaving the EU to clear customs as evidence of their departure and export from the VAT territory of the EU.
In certain situations it also makes the island an ideal place for the sale of aircraft to take place outside the scope of EU VAT.
